CIUT Membership Drive w Ryan McMahon and Gabrielle Fayant

On October 21st Indigenous Waves had our bi-annual CIUT 89.5FM membership drive show. We were fortunate enough to have our favorite comedian Ryan McMahon along with youth grassroots activist and organizer Gabrielle Fayant join us live in studio to support us during the drive, and to share updates on what they have both been up to. Ryan spoke about his latest tapings with the CBC for the Strombo Show, and Gabrielle updated on solidarity actions in Ottawa for Elsipogtog.

Ryan McMahon is Ojibwe/Metis from Couchiching First Nation and a comedian known for his Red Man Laughing podcast, Clarence Two Toes, and his UnReserved comedy special for CBC followed by the UnReserved Tour. Ryan has performed in various grassroots and mainstream venues, including the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, and the Indigenous Writer’s Gathering in Toronto, and is a regular guest on Indigenous Waves.

Gabrielle Fayant is Métis, originating from Fishing Lake Métis Settlement in Alberta, and is currently the elected Vice-President of the Odawa Native Friendship Centre. Gabrielle attends school part-time at Carleton University with a major in Psychology and a minor in Indigenous Studies at Carleton University. Gabrielle is also the co-founder of a grassroots youth initiative called Youth For Northern Communities who dedicate their time to fundraising for issues such as the Attawapiskat housing crisis in the winter of 2011-12, Have a Heart for First Nation Children Day and Joining Hands for Our Communities Gala which helped raise $10,000 for the First Nations Child & Family Caring Society.
