Shawn Atleo’s Resignation, the AFN & Bill C33 (FNCFNEA aka FNEA) with Russ Diabo
Policy Analyst Russell Diabo returned to Indigenous Waves to discuss the recent news of Shawn Atleo resigning as the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), implications of his resignation on Bill C-33 (First Nations Control of First Nation Education – FNCFNEA – or First Nation Education Act – FNEA), the AFN itself and moving forward. Russell also reminds us that Bill C33 is just part of a bigger termination policy by the Canadian government under the leadership of Stephen Harper, and that the Assembly of First Nations is essentially based on the Indian Act.
Russell Diabo (Kanien’kehá:ka from Kahnawake) is a policy analyst and the Editor and Publisher of First Nations Strategic Bulletin.

Please let it be known that the majority of the members of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation agree with the rejection of bill c-33. This has been our position since the FNEA was first in it’s development stage.
Our Cheif Joe Miskokomon does not speak for us in these matters . Most members are appalled and embarrassed that he wishes to see this bill continue through the parliamentary process.
As a matter of fact he has made a habit of speaking on major issues without consulting his people.
